Haltian makes parking easier with the help of radar sensors

Haltian, a Finnish company and one of the world leaders in IoT, is transforming vehicle detection by integrating radar sensors, making it an ideal solution for any parking application. Haltian provides technology that simply works, revolutionizing workspaces worldwide. Their IoT solutions seamlessly integrate, turning every workspace — be it an office, warehouse, or hospital — into a smart, safe, and sustainable place for a more efficient and comfortable workday.

Measure Distance In All Environmental Conditions

The new Haltian RADAR operates by measuring the distance between the sensor and the vehicle using the Acconeer A121 radar sensor, thereby making it possible to identify vehicle presence accurately and reliably. With this technology it is possible to detect parking occupancy and deliver the data to the back end in real-time. The primary applications for the Haltian sensor include warehouse loading dock management and measuring parking space utilization.

Acconeer’s A121 radar sensor is integrated into the Haltian wireless, battery-operated IoT sensor device with a narrow beam lens. The device can be used in many different use cases, such as to reliably detect occupancy and measure distance in all environmental conditions. The Haltian RADAR complements their wide portfolio of IoT sensors purposely created for various built environments. These IoT sensors generate data that helps customers make fact-based decisions, improve their operational efficiency and save cost.

“The key driver to choose Acconeer was the low power consumption in our use cases. This is where Acconeer excelled in comparison to other providers. Acconeer provides just the right set of features at a suitable price point, enabling the end-product of Haltian to be the best product in the market.” Virpi Juusola, Director, Product Management

Cost-Effective And Sustainable

Managing areas with high vehicular activity has historically been challenging and costly, but with the introduction of the Haltian RADAR, clients now have a straightforward and cost-effective solution, with up to 10 years of battery life and durability in all weather conditions. Implementing the devices is easy thanks to the small footprint of the Acconeer sensor, and when you are up and running with the sensor the benefits and possibilities are almost endless. By gathering real-time data on parking occupancy and parking space availability, the experience is streamlined due to the simplicity of viewing available parking spots. Being able to also track data on low occupancy spots can result in a solution were these can be leased out for extra revenue.

From a sustainability point of view, a better optimized parking solution will result in decreasing pollution and reduced search time for occupants, but it will also enable new business models and help to reduce management costs. With fast and easy installation, the cost of ownership is unbeatable and together with the A121 from Acconeer the data can’t be any more precise.

“The development process with Acconeer was smooth. Acconeer has excellent support documentation, their dev-kits work well, and they have a fast and agile support model. Their dedicated support engineer was very responsive with all our questions and concerns. For example, lens simulations were done for us to make sure our device works in the desired manner. We can clearly see the continuous system development that Acconeer does, which is always a quality indicator for us when choosing partners. Looking back at the project, we would happily choose Acconeer again.”

About Haltian

Founded in September 2012, Haltian started out as a startup of five people, a group of experts from Nokia’s top product development team. With valuable access to the excellent competence in the Oulu region, a team of world-class engineers was assembled and the Haltian story began.

Starting as a product development and design company, one of Haltian first projects was the Oura health ring. Soon after, Haltian started to develop their own IoT products which later became the Thingsee IoT product family.
